Personal Manifesto

I believe that everyone has a right to an opinion, though I don’t necessarily have to believe or understand it. I believe everyone has the right to be themselves, dress how they want, look how they want and love who they want.

I believe it is important to be kind and helpful to those who touch my life. That doesn’t mean to say I have to tolerate or interact with those who deliberately hurt me or others, if I come across people like that I should do my utmost to mitigate any damage they might cause by ignoring them, cutting off contact or other non-hurtful means.

I believe it is important to continue learning throughout your life, be open to new thoughts and ideas, add new experiences. We stagnate if we stop learning, if we close our minds or ignore new ideas.

In my world people treat each other with respect and kindness.

In my world the rich are not wealthy at the expense of the poor, they do not try to find ways to avoid paying their dues, they do not bully governments into laws which lessen their responsibilities. In my world religion has its place but remembers that there is no one true way and doesn’t try to impose its beliefs on those who think differently. In my world we are kind, helpful and tolerant. In my world we smile.

My personal policy is to smile often, help when I can, support where needed and make those who come in to contact with me feel better, even if only in a small way. I will always be open to new learning and experiences. My age, gender or looks do not define me, I celebrate who I am and make no apologies for being an individual.

I believe I am uniquely equipped to show people that being ‘nice’ is not being weak. That being tolerant is not a bad thing. That being an individual can be fun.

My overarching personal goal is to make people feel better about themselves. My sub-goal is to write out the ideas I’ve had in my head for the last few years. To stop procrastinating.

My business goals are to be able to run my business around my life and not the other way around. To help others to achieve their goals in some way, large or small. To share my knowledge.

This was a line in the Disney movie Bambi that has always stuck with me, especially as I have got older.

“If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.”

I feel the world would be better if more people thought this.
